Physiotherapist in Littlehampton
James graduated from The University of Southampton and has since specialised in Musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy, with a particular interest in sports injury management and weight-lifting injuries.
Prior to working at the clinic, James was full-time within a busy NHS physiotherapy service, working as an MSK physiotherapist, being involved in the development and management of rehabilitation programmes. He now splits his time between the NHS and his private practice where he has more autonomy and gets to pursue his key interests which include working closely with bodybuilders, sports athletes, as well as the general public.
James has vast experience in manual therapies including (but not limited to) joint mobilisations, soft tissue release, joint articulation, taping, exercise rehabilitation and pre & post-operative rehabilitation.
James' aim is to educate and empower his patients so that they can look after their bodies and improve their quality of life. All patients are unique therefore the management and progression of treatment plans are unique to meet the needs of each patient.
Physiotherapy Services offered by James
Manual therapy has long been the core of Physiotherapy, with a wide variety of approaches and techniques. This hands-on approach is very effective at treating a variety of joint, muscular and gait dysfunctions. Manual therapy can include joint manipulation, stretching, retraining natural range of motion through passive movements and joint tractioning.
Soft Tissue Therapy
Soft tissue therapy is used to treat areas of tight muscles, soft tissue injuries or muscular imbalances which affect how your body is functioning. James uses advanced forms of massage, pressure points and myofascial release techniques, stretching, heat or cold to help release adhesions within the soft tissue, helping to restore normal function and encourage your bodies healing mechanisms.
Taping or strapping is a technique many Physiotherapists use to help with rehabilitation, joint stabilisation and injury prevention. If needed James can also teach you how to strap and apply tape to necessary areas before sport or exercise. Taping has many other benefits including;
- Protecting muscles ligaments, tendons and fascia
- Encouraging and retraining normal movement
- Speeding up your return to sport or work
- Reducing pain levels
- Stabilising joints and muscular complexes
- Reducing the chance of re-injury
- Reducing fluid and swelling around joints
Prehab is a proactive approach to avoiding pain and injury. It's as simple as an additional exercise, or range of motion exercise that is done to ensure that an injury does not occur. This refers to improving your functional capacity through increased physical activity before an anticipated surgery.
Exercise rehabilitation is one of the most important factors of your recovery. James will prescribe a variety of stretches and strengthening exercises, designed to increase the tone, flexibility and strength of specific or groups of muscles. Stretching the muscles helps to increase blood flow, encourage natural movement patterns and reduce the stress on surrounding joints. Whilst strengthening exercises gradually overload the muscle until the point of fatigue, helping to encourage the muscles to grow stronger, offering more support and stability.
James is able to prescribe exercises and stretches to do at home, but if you would prefer regular one to one rehabilitation sessions, please just ask and this can be arranged.
James offers a FREE Short Assessment to all new patients who would like to know more about how Physiotherapy can help them.
