Our clinic is based in the town of Littlehampton, in close proximity to the beach on the south coast of West Sussex. Our practitioners are passionate about promoting natural health and well-being through a positive lifestyle – this includes healthy eating, regular exercise, and regular Sports Massages. Not to worry if this doesn’t sound like your current lifestyle, our Sports Massage Therapist is here to help! Our Sports Massage Therapist specialises in deep tissue massage, passive and active stretching, and various muscle release techniques to help you feel looser, move better, and perform at your best.

Welcome To Sports Massage!

When visiting our clinic in Littlehampton you will be greeted with a big smile by our receptionist! We invite you to make yourself feel at home in our waiting area while you wait. We advise all our patients to arrive at least 5 minutes prior to their appointment; this will allow time to settle into the clinic before the start of an appointment.

We have plentiful on-street parking located on most roads around the clinic, directly out the front of our clinic and many roads surrounding, making access and parking for our patients easy and stress-free.

If it’s your first Sports Massage appointment, or we haven’t seen you for a few years, we like to spend some time getting to know you, or catching up on your life and health situation. This will include an informal chat, a personal history (including details on any past injuries, current medication, and any related conditions), and of course your reason for visiting the clinic. Once we have all the relevant information, your Sports Massage Therapist will assess your muscle tension and range of motion, helping them to tailor their Sports Massage to your requirements. Once they are happy they understand what is required, they will explain their findings, and if you and your Sports Massage Therapist are both happy to proceed, your first massage treatment will then be offered.

We are passionate about sports! Not only do we see patients for sports injuries, but also lots of patients who understand how Sports Massage care can improve performance in their chosen sport. Many top athletes use Sports Massage Therapy as part of their routine to help them to maintain their optimum function & performance.

You don't need to be into sports or suffering from a sports injury to Sports Massage to help you, it is very effective at addressing many causes of muscle tension, pain, and dysfunction.

Why choose Sports Massage Therapy?

The human body is a complex web of muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and nerves. When everything works as it should, everything seems effortless and smooth. However, when one part of this web stops working as it should; normal function turns to dysfunction, which in turn leads to pain, stiffness, tightness, loss of mobility, and many other limiting symptoms.

Sports Massage Therapy works to improve how your Muscles, Tendons (muscle attachments), and circulation function, helping you move easier, feel more comfortable, and perform at your best. When your muscles become tight everyday tasks become harder and more uncomfortable, the muscles can also constrict surrounding blood vessels; reducing your function, slowing down healing, and increasing pain or discomfort. Your Sports Massage Therapist is trained to locate these dysfunctional muscles and break down the tension, allowing your body to return to normal function and healing as needed.

Sports Massage can be beneficial when used as a one-off treatment, however, is far more effective when spread over a course of treatment designed at rebalancing your muscular system, giving your muscles a chance to heal and function as they should. There may be times when Sports Massage Therapy is not the right option for you, and our Sports Massage Therapist is trained to know when to refer to either our Chiropractor, Osteopath, Physiotherapist, Podiatrist, or to your GP.

cupping massage 1

Cupping -

Cupping (also known as myofascial decompression) is used to address range of motion restrictions and imbalances that could be affecting your body.

What happens during cupping?
The practitioner assesses the areas of restriction or imbalance and places cups to create negative pressure, drawing inflammation out of the affected tissue and improving local circulation. This lifts the soft tissues, increasing the interstitial space, and subsequently promoting the flow of fluids in the body. With passive & active movement and PNF incorporated, range of motion restrictions and imbalances can be addressed.

What can it help with?

The application of cupping by our qualified sports massage therapist can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as:

  • Muscle pain and tension (such as DOMS)
  • Reduced range of motion
  • Headaches
  • Back pain
  • Stress

First Sports Massage Appointment

Your Sports Massage journey starts here... when you book your first appointment we will email you an online health questionnaire, helping your Sports Massage Therapist to build a complete picture of who you are and why you are coming to see us. When you visit the clinic we will ask you to complete one more form, giving your Sports Massage Therapist as much information about your symptoms and reason for visiting the clinic.

Your Sports Massage Therapist will then ask you questions about your reasons for visiting the clinic, where you are experiencing tension, what can aggravate this tension, and what you are hoping to achieve from treatment. Once your Sports Massage Therapist is happy they have all of the information about you and your symptoms, they will then proceed with their physical assessment.

The physical assessment will vary depending on your reason for visiting the clinic and what you are hoping to achieve from your treatment. The assessment will often include an of your range of motion, checking which movements cause pain or are restricted, and then analysing your muscle tension and tone. Sports Massage Therapists are experts in locating the tightest muscles in your body, using their trained hands to apply a combination of gentle and firm pressure where needed. They will also check for any areas of inflammation or swelling.

Following your examination, and once your Sports Massage Therapist is happy they have located the areas that need working on, your Sports Massage Therapist will then complete your first Sports Massage treatment. This treatment starts by warming up your muscles and surrounding soft tissue, often starting with lesser pressure, and then building pressure as the body starts to loosen up, allowing them to get deeper and use a firmer pressure (always within your comfort zone). The first Massage is an opportunity for your Sports Massage Therapist to test how your body responds to treatment, helping to guide their advice for future treatment.

After your first treatment, your Sports Massage Therapist will run through aftercare advice, and how you can get the most out of your treatments.

What Does Treatment Involve?

Sports Massage treatment can involve many different styles of deep-tissue massage. For the most part treatment centers around soft tissue release, deep tissue massage, soft tissue manipulation, and stretching techniques aimed at restoring optimal function by increasing soft tissue flexibility, and increasing motion; allowing your body to heal and restore overall function.

Patients visit Sports Massage Therapists for many different reasons and with varied symptoms. Common reasons people visit Sports Massage Therapists include (but are not limited to) muscle tension, feeling restricted in movement, pain or discomfort, injury, tight muscles, relaxation, pre-competition preparation, and post-competition recovery, among many others.

Sports Massage Therapy isn’t only useful for sports conditions, Sports Massage Therapy can also help prevent problems by pinpointing tight muscles and muscle imbalances before they become an issue. Prevention is always better than the cure, so maintaining your body's movement is key to a healthy and mobile body in the long term.

Sports Massage Therapy does not only focus on treating the symptomatic area but uses a combination of soft-tissue techniques to help re-balance the body, improve joint motion, and increase blood flow. Sports Massage wants all muscle groups of the body to work together, encouraging better movement, less muscle tension, and overall improved well-being. At our clinic in Littlehampton, our Sports Massage Therapist Annabel Hunter helps patients with many different symptoms.

I had my first appointment with Tom to treat a verruca and corn, and couldn’t be more happy. The clinic has a really positive and relaxing vibe, a massive contrast to the unpleasant experiences I’ve had at my GP surgery. Everyone was friendly, professional and I was made to feel very comfortable. Highly recommend! Thank you

I have been to lots of physios over the years and they have all been very good. What James did that was a bit different was to demonstrate a genuine empathy with my situation. He worked with me for a solution that kept me in mind as opposed to purely focusing on the medical condition. A win-win!

No. We view every patient on an individual basis and formulate treatment plans to suit them. On some visits there may only be one or two areas that require treatment, however, longer appointments can allow a full-body massage, allowing us time for other areas and other parts of the body (wrists, shoulders, elbows, legs, etc) that may require attention.

Sports Massage is tailored to each individual with your goals in mind, meaning we assess what you need, and what you want to achieve, then using the most relevant technique(s) and pressure to help you reach your goals. Our Sports Massage techniques vary depending on the area of the body which needs attention, using a balance of firm and soft touch as applicable.

During the beginning phase of care, weekly can be beneficial, however as we start to get your tension under control, the gaps between treatments will often get larger. When we are considering maintenance treatment using Sports Massage, the gaps are personalised to each individual, ranging from 2 to 8 weeks. If you receive regular massage, then keep your goals in mind, if you are unsure, read the answer above, if that doesn't help we can always discuss this at your next appointment.

We use towels and sarongs to cover you and help you feel comfortable during your Massage and require that you keep your underwear on. If you feel more comfortable you can bring a pair of shorts. Stretchy underwear, which is concealing is best, especially if we are treating legs.
